The systems generate the appearance of a life-size teacher in the classroom. This has proven to be much more compelling than standard video conferencing, which displays a view of a remote classroom with the teacher shown on a flat television screen. The telepresent teacher can interact with students in a natural way in real-time and can command attention through direct eye contact. Supporting visuals, such as PowerPoint presentations or pictures of objects captured by document camera’s can be shown to the class by the telepresent teacher. Universities or training organizations can record lectures or training sessions to be presented by a life-size trainer with supporting visuals. This way, a complete ‘library’ of classes can be created over time. These pre-recorded classes can easily be shown (locally or over distance). Immediately, following showing such a prerecorded session, the same network connection can be used for live telepresence for questions to and answers by the telepresent teacher.
